High Tech High Chula Vista (HTHCV) is a school that is well known for its unique program and we get visitors from across the United States and all over the world. When visitors come to our school they often want insight on what the school is best known for – “project based learning.” There is no better way to learn about “project based learning” than through the eyes of the students on campus!
On multiple occasions HTHCV teachers and administrators have reached out to me to participate in conversations with visitors, or they set up a panel discussion where they can ask me and other students questions regarding the school program and our experiences. For example:
- In early 2018 I was nominated and selected to serve as a HTHCV “Summer Bridge Leader“. In this role I helped orientate the HTHCV incoming class of 2023.
- During the first semester of my junior year in 2017, I was invited to speak to two different groups of educators visiting HTHCV to learn more about “project based learning” programs. The first group of educators was from Atlanta, Georgia, and the second group was from Ohio.
- In 2016, while still a sophomore, I was invited to speak at the HTH Graduate School in Point Loma. It was a panel of high school students that spoke to a class of teachers education graduate students on the topic of how to best teach to diverse communities and promote equity in the classroom.
- In 2015, during the first few months of arriving at HTHCV as a 9th grader, I was nominated by my teachers to be a HTHCV “Ambassador” because of my outgoing personality. In this role I was prepared to serve as a representative of the school in public settings.
I enjoy participating on these panels because I am able to get to know educators from around the the country, and speak about what I feel is important to share. When I am invited to speak on these panels I feel like my perspective is valued and that my on-campus involvement is validated.
