The annual Zapata Conference is a local youth conference hosted by Somos Raza Youth Project to bring together youth from the community that want to further educate themselves on their history and the current matters our working class communities are faced with. It is also a part of the Escuelita Aztlan Saturday school.
The planning of this conference involves months of meetings before the day of the event, all of which I participate in. I help with planning the logistics of the event, outreach to local high school cultural clubs to promote the event, and on the day of the conference I sometimes participate in the Escolta de bandera to initiate the event.
I have been part of the conference organizing committees for 2017 and 2018.
